Civil War and the Covid-19 Battle

A Story of a Strong Nation

The civil war in Sri Lanka dated back to 1983 which disrupted the civilian lives for nearly three decades, until May 2009. All most all the Sri Lankans from younger to older, who born before 2009 have experienced the war in some form. Apart from the brutal battles in the war fields ‘LTTE’, the terrorist group in Sri Lanka, killed thousands of civilians through suicide bombing, shooting massacre and sword attacks in villages. However, this miserable period ended around ten years back.

This same battlefield recalls through the current pandemic of Covid-19 around the globe. Similar to terrorism the deadly virus has killed thousands and affected millions, signaling the difficulty of eradication.

As a country of three decades of war, it can be seen many similarities between the fight against the invisible Covid-19 and LTTE terrorists. Starting from the travel restrictions, security measures to precautionary actions, there are many similarities to be highlighted.

1. Travel restrictions

As the first precautionary measure for the Covid-19 battle, the government imposes travel restrictions from and out of the country. The island-wide travel restrictions were imposed thereafter and permissions were given to emergency requirements only…
